  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 5 cups (1.2 liters) cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lemons:
    • Roll the lemons on the countertop with your hand to soften them, making them easier to juice.
    • Cut the lemons in half and juice them using a citrus juicer or by hand.
  2. Make the Simple Syrup:
    • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar.
    • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
    • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the simple syrup cool to room temperature.
  3. Mix the Lemonade:
    • In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the cooled simple syrup.
    • Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir well to combine.
  4. Serve:
    • Taste the lemonade and adjust the sweetness or tartness if necessary by adding more sugar or water.
    • Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the lemonade over the ice.
    • Garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves if desired.
  5. Enjoy:
    • Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing homemade lemonade!

Tips

  • For a more intense lemon flavor, add some lemon zest to the simple syrup while it’s heating, then strain it out before mixing it with the lemon juice.
  • For a twist, you can add a splash of sparkling water just before serving to make sparkling lemonade.
  • You can also infuse your lemonade with other flavors like berries, ginger, or herbs for a unique variation.
